On the presence of Fe(IV) in Fe-ZSM-5 and FeSr[O.sub.3-x] -- unequivocal detection of the 3[d.sup.4] spin system by resonant inelastic X-ray scattering
Article Abstract:
A study demonstrates that the contribution of a 3[d.sup.4] spin configuration to the valence electronic structure of Fe compounds can be probed via spin-selective Fe K-pre-edge absorption spectra, using resonant inelastic X-ray scatterings (RIXS). Findings suggest that the 3[d.sup.4] configuration of Fe(IV) can be unequivocally detected even in a mixture with the high-spin 3[d.sup.5] configuration of Fe(III).

Depth and angular profiles of inelastic low-energy electron scattering in condensed molecular samples
Article Abstract:
The angular distribution and the probing depth of low-energy electrons scattered from multilayer, molecular solid films are investigated by using high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy. The results help in identifying favorable conditions for monitoring the composition of a solid sample during the course of reactions occurring under exposure to low-energy electrons.

Oxidation of organic films by beams of hydroxyl radicals
Article Abstract:
The oxidation of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of alkanes and alkenes with a thermal beam of OH radicals is studied. The OH radicals have initiated a radical-induced polymerization of the alkene film.
